Here at Chesapeake Spine Center, we offer many different services to increase overall quality of life for our patients. All of our treatments are based in the functional medicine model in order to get to the root of your symptoms.
ChiropracticÂ
Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that is centered on the role of the spine and central nervous system in maintaining good health and leveraging the recuperative power of the body to heal itself naturally and efficiently. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. MacDowall utilizes gentle approaches to chiropractic care, specializing in the Activator method – a low-force chiropractic adjustment technique that restores spinal balance and joint alignment with safety and comfort to the patient.
Diagnostic Nutrition Testing and Supplement Recommendation
Many symptoms and disorders have been traced to the disruption of cellular health due to environmental toxins and inadequate nutrition. Dr. MacDowall provides nutrition counseling, body composition analysis, lectures targeting weight issues and proactive aging strategies, as well as herbs and supplements from proprietary nutraceutical companies.
Blood work and Laboratory Testing
We use a variety of medical testing as diagnostic tools at Chesapeake Spine Center. We offer blood work and lab testing in order to best understand your physiology and treat the underlying conditions that may be causing your pain. These tests provide enormous amounts of information, and also serve as a baseline to indicate improvement in the future.
X-rays
X-rays present us with an accurate picture of what is happening in your skeletal system. We always recommend them prior to treatment, and rely on them to provide you with the most appropriate care based on your needs.
Corrective Exercises and Rehab
Corrective exercises can help alleviate pain that you are experiencing. These exercises will strengthen and correct the irregularities of your body which may be causing your pain. Most of these exercises are able to be performed in the comfort of your own home, and coupled with regular visits to the office, can accelerate the healing process.
Gait Analysis
Custom orthotics are a great way to help treat a wide variety of pain such as back, hip, or knee pain resulting from foot irregularities, posture issues and more. Gait scans are a biomechanical solution to diagnosing and creating your custom orthotics. By walking across the gait scanner, we are able to provide custom orthotic solutions without invasive testing. Custom orthotics can be one of the fastest ways to address low back pain, by aligning and balancing your body’s foundation.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy rehabilitation uses mechanical force and movement to improve mobility, function, and even quality of life through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical intervention.
Auto Accidents
An auto accident can cause many different issues. Often an accident can throw your neck, your spine, or even your entire body out of alignment. We are committed to working with you to find the root cause of the pain, and through exercises as well as regular chiropractic care, help you begin to feel like yourself again.
Dry Needling
Dry needling aims to address neuromuscular conditions, relieve pain, and improve range of motion. During your scheduled appointment, we will insert a small needle into specified areas of your body depending on your unique and individual needs.
Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the philosophy that the universe and the body are opposing forces. The constant flow of energy keeps them balanced. When the flow of energy is blocked, illness will occur. Dry needling therapy will release blocked energy, resolve the pain, and improve sleep, digestive functions, and sense of well-being.
Dry needling follows evidence-based guidelines, recommended point locations, and dosages for treatment of specific conditions. Our goal is to improve pain control and reduce muscle tension through this technique.
